I hope everyone is doing great and learning something new every day! I hope your Data Science and Artificial Intelligence journey is fun so far! :)
Before I was fascinated by Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, I was quite money-minded. I am not shy or embarrassed to say it. Who does not like money in a capitalist world? More importantly is how you earn your money, as mentioned by Confucius.
One useful advice, I gained while reading books on financial literacy that stuck with me till now is:
Who you get your advice from is very important. If you want to be rich, you have to get advice from rich people. Understand how they understand money, how they earned their money. It never make sense to learn how to be rich, from someone who has not made it yet.
In other words, learn from those people who have done it. Want to be rich, learn from rich people. If you want to be a data scientist, learn from someone who has worked on many projects and relevant experience.
How do I find one?
One of the many reasons DataScience SG was founded, is to facilitate networking. Go out there to find the experienced one. Network with people at a meetup, chat with them. Identify the experienced ones in there.
Find out what their experience is (not qualifications/degree). Check out their LinkedIn profile. Ask yourself if these are the experience you want to learn from. Chat with the potential mentor first and can you identify with his/her values and character. If experience, characters and values checked out nicely, approach and request for mentorship.
All of us want a great career, thus spend more time finding great mentors, find people who can give us great advice to build that great career you desire.
I found the advice to be of great value and I hope you do too. I have written a post that detailed the steps in seeking and engaging a mentor. I look forward to getting feedback from you. :)
